The Fruity Book Tag

Hi guys! A while ago my friend Liv from Olivia Chanel created The Fruity Book Tag (here’s the original post!), in which she took fruits and paired them up with different types of fruit. I love book tags and I love Liv, so of course I have to do this one.

APPLES – a book with forbidden love

Captive Prince by C.S. Pacat is one of the first books that comes to mind when I think of forbidden love. The main character, Damen, is the heir to the throne of Akielos. His “love interest”, Laurent, is the heir to Akielos’s rival kingdom, Vere. On top of having their respective kingdoms to rule, they ruin each other’s lives. The things they do to each other should guarantee they’ll never have romantic (or even friendly) feelings for each other. But sometimes you fall in love with whom you least expect.

PINEAPPLES – a book with a Latina/Latino character

The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan actually has two Latino characters, and one of them is a main character. I want to focus on Reyna, though. She is Puerto Rican (like me!) and a badass. She is smart, a great leader, and a good person. This was my first and only time reading about a Puerto Rican character in a book, and it was an amazing experience.

WATERMELONS – a book that takes place in the summer

Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour is the last book I read that takes place during the summer, and it was so good! The main character keeps a scrapbook and pages from it are shown in the book, including pictures, playlists, receipts from stores and restaurants, and other fun stuff.

BANANAS – a book that is anti-slutshaming

As far as I remember, I haven’t read any books that are anti-slutshaming. The Addicted Series by Krista and Becca Ritchie is very sex-positive, though. I don’t like this series but most people seem to love it, so odds are that if you read this series, you will love it.

MANGOES – a book with a non-western setting

The Wrath and the Dawn  by Renée Ahdieh is either the only or one of two books I own that have a non-western setting. I have not read this yet, but I read Despina’s short story and really liked it, so I expect to love this book when I finally read it.

POMEGRANATES – a same-sex ship

Of course I have to go for the cutest of all the ships: Simon and Blue from Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. This book is so cute and fluffy. It is one of the few books that I constantly feel the need to reread, to be honest. There’s theater, fandom references and a little bit of mystery. What’s not to like?

Ah, this book tag was so fun! (It was totally worth it to spend four hours editing the pictures.) I’m not tagging anyone but if you want to do it, consider yourself tagged. ☺

 

Colleen Hoover Book Tag

Hey guys! Today I am doing a tag that doesn’t really make sense for me, because I haven’t liked any Colleen Hoover book I have read, but the questions were really great so I felt the need to do it.

The Colleen Hoover Book Tag was created by Marta’s Bookshelf. Go check out the original post, and maybe do the tag because it’s really fun!

1. Maybe Someday. If you had to make the soundtrack for a book, which book would you choose and which songs would you use?
   I would choose Prince’s Gambit by C.S. Pacat, and all I know is that the soundtrack would include Strange Love by Halsey. I barely know any songs, so my soundtrack would only have one song for the longest time, but this is the only book I am reminded of when I listen to music. (Well, when I listen to this one song.)

2. Slammed. I dare you to make a four verses poem describing your favorite book right now.
   I choose any book in The Raven Cycle series.

Dreams, ghosts, and true love’s kiss.
One is destined for greatness,
But this time death won’t miss.
And just like that, goodness will be extinct.

This poem is so bad but it was so fun to write! Also, ouch.

3. Ugly Love. “Love isn’t always pretty, Tate.” A book that can break your heart and fix it at the same time.
   The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater. Yes, I am repeating a series and choosing a book I haven’t read because I just know that this book is going to kill me, chop my heart into little pieces, put it back together, bring me back to life, and repeat the process all over again.

4. Losing Hope. A book you would like to read from another character’s POV.
   For this question I am going to choose Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, because for a long period of this book, Dante is living in another state and is actually creating memories and experiencing things. Dante is an interesting and, frankly, adorable character, so I would like to read Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe from his point of view.

5. Confess. Let’s judge a book by its title… Let’s confess. What is the book that no one expects you to like but you actually love?
   I don’t know if this is a book people don’t expect me to like, but since I normally like more than just romance in my books, I will go with My True Love Gave to Me: Twelve Holiday Stories. Most people seem not to like this collection of short stories, but I loved the atmosphere of it, and most of the romances were adorable. I think there were one or two stories that I didn’t like, which makes this my favorite anthology for sure.

6. Warren (Maybe Someday). Most main characters have a best friend that can be either very charming or really annoying. Who is your favorite secondary character? And who is the one you dislike the most?
   I have never thought about this question in depth, so I can’t tell you who my all-time favorite and least favorite secondary characters are, so I will choose my answers from books I have read this year. My favorite secondary character from a book I’ve read this year is Lady Maribelle from The Skylighter by Becky Wallace. She is not my favorite secondary character of all-time, but I was so, so, so pleasantly surprised by her character that it’s hard not to say her name when I think of characters I like. One secondary character I dislike a lot is Penelope from Carry On. She annoyed me all the time but truthfully, so did every other character in this book.

7. Miles (Ugly Love). Very often we find characters with a very troubled, dark and traumatic past that doesn’t let them move on. Which character’s past would you like to erase to make them feel better?
   I would like to erase Ronan Lynch’s past, from The Raven Cycle, because when he lost his father it changed his life completely, and not for the better. I would give him his dad back. And while I’m at it, I would give Adam Parrish a different, loving family.

8. November 9. Name a book you perfectly remember the day you read it.
   Far from You by Tess Sharpe, because I read it with my friend, Liv, and we spent all day sending reactions and theories to each other. That made this reading experience unforgettable. If you get the chance to buddy read a book with a close friend, do it. You will not regret it.

1. The Room Where It Happens: Book world you would put yourself in
The obvious and best answer would be the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, but I am going to choose not a world, but a town called Buttermilk Falls. Everything revolves around love and good food and there’s a tiny bit of magic, so if I couldn’t end up in the Wizarding World, Buttermilk Falls wouldn’t be such a bad place to live in.
